At 6SensorLabs we have surveyed over 600 gluten-free consumers to learn more about their eating habits and experiences and wanted to share a few interesting findings with you.
Most notably, we asked how often gluten-free consumers get sick from un-intended gluten contamination and found that, on average, nearly 1 out of 3 times gluten-free consumers eat outside of the home they get sick!
We asked how often people eat outside of the home and how often they get sick from unintended gluten exposure. On average, people said they eat out 76X/year (about 20% of the time or between 1-2X/week), and they get sick 23X/year. So assuming they get exposed to unintended gluten when they are eating outside of the home, we took the ratio of getting sick to eating out (23/76) and found that ~ 30% of the time people eat out they get sick (a little less than 1 out of 3 times).
“Getting sick” means any reaction someone might have to gluten exposure.
