The 6SensorLabs team gets lots of questions about gluten in general, our awesome intern, Gabi, put together this guide to videos that provide good background information.
If you ever were wondering, or knew anybody that was wondering, the who, what, when, where, and why’s of gluten free (and maybe watching things is really your thing) rather than making you look things up, we’ve accumulated a brief list (no more than 15 minutes, we promise!) of short videos that cover the basics of gluten to Celiacs to a yummy treat and back.
To start, What the Heck Is Gluten? by asapSCIENCE will really have you understanding what the heck is gluten in all of two minutes and thirty-six seconds. As an added bonus, it’s engaging and comprehensible.
If after you’re done watching that, you’re a little bit curious on why people are going gluten free (because you know what gluten is now), or maybe you’re even a little bit concerned that you might have a problem with gluten, here’s Dr. James Meschino giving a brief introduction to Celiac Disease and Gluten Sensitivity, the two main medical causes for a conversion to a gluten free diet. You can even skip the last thirty seconds if you’re feeling short on time.
What if all those symptoms mean you can’t eat gluten? What if you might have a leaky gut? What foods should you stay away from? The Oprah Whitney Network covers some the many things consumers should be aware of that can contain gluten (as well as gluten free substitutes). For a more comprehensive list, this ten minute bonus video by Glutenology even goes over cosmetic products to be careful of and cross contamination issues.
But if you’d rather have a recipe to get crackin’ on something so delicious you can’t even tell it doesn’t have gluten, have a red velvet cupcake. The gluten free diet doesn’t have to be as scary or complicated as it seems; for many with Celiac, a sensitivity, or an intolerance, it also makes them feel so much better.
